These are the tools used to configure and manage various options and settings. Try to delete them and you probably break other things in the OS which could result in annoying errors popping up on your screen. If you don't need something, just don't use it. Disable Bluetooth if you like - but make sure you're not using a bluetooth keyboard or mouse!
Disable Wifi, Siri, etc. Disable screen savers, disable power management, etc. If you do not like the flexibility of a computer, you might be better off with a "turnkey" music server or streamer and use whatever interface and player the manufacturer constrains you to.
Newer macOS are much tighter in the area of security. You can try some of the links below. I'm still on Catalina on my other Mini and the Mac I use for work. Set it to never. If you don't the Mac asking for a password when it wakes up from a sleep, don't allow the energy saver to allow it to sleep. If you don't want the screen to ever go blank, set it to never timeout using the energy saver settings.
If you're concerned with the screen drawing power just turn it off manually. I have run Audirvana in the past and it offers some 'optimizations' for running on the Mac so you might want to check those out too.
Audirvana sounds excellent on the Mac. The last time I ran the Audirvana iPhone app for remote control it was pretty clunky but that was many many years ago when they first released it. I haven't tried it since.
RE: Mac optimization and Audirvana tweaks, posted on September 17, at Well the mini would not be my choice. Desktops like the mini, iMac and MacPro are noisy. The FCC standard is much lower than laptops. Plus the engineering doesn't have to be as exact. Laptops on the other hand are over engineered for use with minimal current usage and higher FCC requirements.
In all cases library has to be thunderbolt for best results if your using a USB dac. I think the new Air is killer, no fan, new processor I would get 16G of memory as you can't update it. I got a great deal on the mini and am not using usb so I have to make the most out of it. The Audirvana control app seems to be the weak link now. I still need to get the time to do some of Abe's suggestions but it does sound pretty good now. Though I will be trying hqplayer I think. Files are on the mini's ssd. Would they be better on the nas or since I am not using USB it doesn't matter as much?

On windows you could disable the onboard card and the internal speakers, etc. I only need the Dante Virtual Soundcard Audirvana is probably getting axed.
The app is just stupid. Hysolid is way better. I get it that most normal people are streaming and listen to internet radio and all kind of great stuff. I don't want any of that. I don't care about streaming and I don't care what is on the radio. I just want to access my local content, press on an artist picture and select an album, and then perhaps an individual song.
I want the thing to repeat all the songs from an album or an artist. Not do some que thing you have to manually build all the damn time. This app defaults to streaming services. I can't see a way to have it ignore all that.
And they finally I get to the album I want and no, you can't just tap the photo and have it play the album. But if you happen to then select a song, it forgets that its supposed to repeat everything and just stops No worries but it remembers none of this.
So if I get out of the app I have to go through the process again Does anyone know if the non studio version is different? Thanks, Cut to razor sounding violins.

I've been using different generations of the Mini for about a decade with stellar results. Other audio manufacturers have been using them in their listening rooms and at shows as well. Certain laptops might be technically better by a small margin but that doesn't necessarily translate into being audibly better especially when coupled to an outboard DAC.
If you want something that is technically better still, you might consider a small network streamer. They are all excellent. Again, the outboard DAC has more impact on the sound than any of the above. Most all players will do this. Perhaps you're not yet familiar with Audirvana. There's a learning curve with any player and you have to be willing to go through it. It's harder if you're already comfy with something else.
Additionally, you can create various playlists as you would with most modern players, and have it repeat if you like. Mine isn't. Hey Abe, There is a distinction between the player and the app. Yes you can do things in the player for sure I don't want to use a computer, so the app needs to work. It doesn't. You can repeat the QUE. On hysolid I can select an artist and it shows all the albums from that artist.
If I play an album it will repeat it and all the songs from that artist. Audirvana just seems to repeat the que That is just the supported list. My "dac" isn't on there either but it works fine. The issue is that the driver has to support 32 bit. HQPlayer also seems to have a lame q based app.
Its better and worse. I thought the mac sofware would be much better. HYsolid seemed like it was just an experiment with no intent for a product or long term support, but their app is just so much better than the 2 I have tried on the mac side. Amarra up next I think. I am not using a usb dac. Well they say they support linux so perhaps its not impossible. They charged crazy pricing in the couple thousand dollar range until the market wouldn't bear it any longer as they kept dropping their price as better cheaper players became available.
I have no idea what Amarra costs these days. Another option for you might be Pure Music which I have also used. IMHO, computer based audio should [in addition to sound quality] be about convenience, reliability, and a good user experience through the user interface As such, I switched to Roon a few years ago. I use Roon Remote on the portable iPad most of the time.
Yes, Roon costs more, much more. But in the grand scheme of things, it's actually not that expensive if you consider the money some of us spend on hardware. You're deluding yourself Nice Try! You're running Headphones for godsakes!! Love that band! I was already running I had Direct mode and choice of integer modes and I elected to use integer mode 1 provisionally and then to try mode 2 after a few days.
After taking up the Tidal free trial on the 14th I noticed a distinct fall off in SQ generally. I decided that because I was not enjoying the library music so much as I had at time of purchase I should try integer mode 2 but it and Direct Mode had gone.
The only thing which I had done were the Tidal sign up and played some DSD files which my DAC claimed not to be able to play but I do not see how these could have any bearing on the disappearance of Direct Mode. I am tearing what remains of my hair out. I should add that I have since updated to The workaround is to unplug and re-plug in my DAC.
That resets things and I am able to select and play a different album or song. It works, but it is not an ideal solution. I would love to find a permanent solution to the problem. Any more ideas or suggestions would be most welcomed. Greetings from Denmark.
This high sierra should works has it as always did. We are now with catalina and before mojave, they all works… but after a mac system update, you will need to redo the hack, maybe that what happen to you?
